Donation: Supporting Graduate Students at NIPS

NIPS is a one of a kind inter-university research institute for research and education on human physiology. It aims for investigating the function of the human body and brain, and training up international researchers in the field. We are trying to provide scientific guidelines for healthy living and science knowledge that forms the basis for elucidating the mechanisms of disease pathogenesis, to the society. For achieving it, NIPS accepts 5-year Doctor Course and 3-year Doctor Course graduate students in Department of Physiological Sciences, School of Life Science, The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI), and trains and educates them to become successful international physiologists work at universities and institutes all over Japan.

Taking this high level education with well-established facilities and excellent researchers forces economic burden on the students and their family. They are facing a lot of problems, for instance, students who enrolled in 3-year Doctor Course (Transfer admission after master’s course completion) have to pay the admission fee again for SOKENDAI, even though they had paid the fee to the university they took their master’s degree. The budget for exemption of tuition fees has been reduced and payment of housing cost are hurting them financially, as well.

Universities in western countries have a great scholarship system so that they can recruit excellent students. The situation is totally opposite from what we are facing in Japan. To recruit excellent students to NIPS from all over the world, “Seiriken Scholarship” has been established since 2004 for SOKENDAI students (Department of Physiological Sciences) to reduce their financial burden. However, it is not easy to provide the money for it ever year. Therefore NIPS is asking for your donation to support students with excellent ability who have financial difficulties. Your support may lead an improvement in science and technology in the world, consequently. We appreciate your support.
