Welcome to HIRABAYASHI Lab

Aim of Research

Genetically modified (GM) animals (transgenic animals with foreign genes integrated into the genome / knock-out (KO) animals with disrupted specific gene functions / knock-in (KI) animals with replaced specific genome sequence) are indispensable tools in the research of life sciences. With the recent development of gene editing technologies, it has become possible to generate desired animals more quickly and efficiently. Routinely, we provide the genetically modified rodents in responses to requests from research institutions.
Recently, we applied our laboratory skills to regenerative medical study. “Blastocyst complementation”, that regenerates ES cell- or iPS cell-derived organs in organ-deficient rodents, was significantly effective to regenerate functional pancreas and kidneys in KO xenochimeras. In the future, our activities will contribute to life science and medical development through the controls of stem cell differentiation, early embryonic development, and organogenesis, along with elucidation of underlying mechanisms.
