Title & Abstract

Title: Computational approaches to link stimulus encoding, neural ciorcuits and mesoscale human brain measurements.

Abstract: There are many ways to measure the human brain, with each measurement highlighting a different aspect of brain function. Intracranial EEG recording, with electrodes implanted in the human brain for clinical purposes, have many different characteristics, including narrowband rhythms and spectrally broadband motifs. These mesoscale field potentials measure the aggregate signals from neuronal populations and there are many existing theories on the role of the different characteristics in visual processing. In order to understand how these signals can inform about typical and pathological visual processing, I will first show how iEEG and functional MRI signals respond to different types of visual input, and how we then developed an encoding model that can predict gamma oscillations (30-80Hz) in the iEEG signal. Second, I will show a computational framework of how these signals reveal different aspects of the underlying neuronal circuit. Lastly, I will show how these models can help develop biomarkers for disease and be implemented in simple software applications.
