How do synaptic circuits change in response to novel experience?
Optical techniques hold great promise for dissecting the mechanisms of plasticity at the level of circuits and even individual synapses. I will describe how we use laser scanning photostimulation to search for the loci of experience-dependent plasticity in cortical circuits (i.e. the engram). We then use long-term in vivo imaging to study the synaptic mechanisms of plasticity.
