Skilled reaching and grasping are amongst the most complex voluntary movements that many different species of animals perform for their daily living and survival. We will describe our research in this field that has stretched over a long time from the cat, monkey and man, rat and mouse. Comparison will be made between the animal models as to the circuitry and behavioral skills. Finally, we will address recent findings regarding internal feedback control of motor commands for reaching involving precerebellar processing.
