Financial Supports
-
All admitted students, except for Japanese Government Scholarship Students, will receive a NIPS Scholarship equivalent to the admission fee, but only if they have applied for an admission fee exemption and the exemption request has not been approved.
-
Except for students who are recognized as having a stable income sufficient to cover living expenses (see the next item), all students are employed as Research Assistants (RAs) under the following scheme:
-
Standard amount: JPY 1,300,000 per year
-
Students with excellent entrance examination results: JPY 1,400,000 per year
-
Students with outstanding entrance examination results: JPY 1,700,000 per year
-
Additional financial support may also be provided from each laboratory's budget, up to a fixed maximum amount.
-
Students who are recognized as having a stable income at a sufficient level to cover living expenses (approximately JPY 2,200,000 per year), such as recipients of JSPS Research Fellowships for Young Scientists (DC1/DC2), SOKENDAI Special Researcher Program, or other fellowship-type scholarships (*), will be employed as RAs in an amount equivalent to the tuition fee if their application for tuition exemption is not approved.
-
For students receiving fellowship-type scholarships (*) that are not considered sufficient to cover living expenses, the amount of RA compensation may be adjusted so that the combined total of the scholarship and RA compensation does not exceed JPY 2,400,000 per year.
-
Depending on the laboratory, students may also be employed as Research Support Staffs in addition to their RA appointment.
* “Fellowship-type scholarships” refer to scholarships for which applicants are selected either through applications submitted via SOKENDAI or NIPS, or through nomination by faculty members at NIPS.
